Summer camps to inspire tween and teen game developers and roboticists

kids at robotics camp

Help your kids stay busy and beat the heat this summer!

Faculty members from the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence will facilitate two fantastic summer camps for middle school and high school students on the Tempe campus.

Game Camp in Unreal Engine

Middle school – grades 7 and up
Weekdays June 3–14, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

High school – grades 9 and up
Weekdays June 17–28, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Associate Teaching Professor Yoshihiro Kobayashi will help kids develop realistic 3D games using the high-end game engine, Unreal Engine 5, from Epic Games.

This camp adopts a hands-on approach, allowing each student to utilize highly specialized computers equipped with NVIDIA RTX graphics technology. Kobayashi has over 20 years of experience teaching computer graphics and game development. As an in-person camp, the kids will receive prompt assistance and support from student assistants who are part of the Fulton Schools game design program.

Robotics Camp 2024

ASU’s Robotics Camp is an innovative summer program designed for middle school and high school students interested in science and engineering. Expert instructors use component-based robot construction and programming to teach the latest engineering concepts and technologies. Students will work in teams to design, build, and program a robot. By the end of the camp, groups will test their metal in a robotics challenge.

Middle school – grades 7 and up
Weekdays June 17–28, 8:15 a.m.–4:45 p.m.
Students will start to learn programming using Alice programming environment with 3D animation, movie and game development. Then, students will design and construct robots, learn EV3 robotics programming, and participate in the robotics challenge at the level of difficulty similar to the FIRST Lego League Robotics Competition.

High school – grades 9 and up
Weekdays July 1–12, 8:15 a.m.–4:45 p.m.
The program will cover robot construction, visual programming language programming, C# programming, Web programming in Service-Oriented Computing, Phone app programming, and a robotics challenge.
