Submit projects for the 2024 Summer Research Initiative by Nov. 27

Project submissions from interested faculty are now being accepted for the Summer Research Initiative, known as SURI, for 2024. The purpose of SURI is to improve doctoral student recruitment by enabling both domestic and international students, including ASU students, to participate in summer research under the mentorship of Fulton Schools research faculty. In the summer of 2023, we had a total of 49 students participating (24 U. S. citizen/permanent resident and 25 international students, including 11 underrepresented minority participants. To date, 11 SURI participants have enrolled in a doctoral program at ASU.

For SURI 2024, we are accepting in-person projects only. Hosting a SURI student means working with and mentoring your students throughout the eight-week summer period (tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024, to Thursday, July 18, 2024).

For SURI 2024, selected students will be offered a $5,000 stipend plus living expenses and additional support programming designed to build community, offer networking opportunities with industry partners and encourage participants to prepare for and consider pursuing a doctoral degree. In all, each student package is equivalent to approximately $10,000. To participate in the SURI program, we will be asking that faculty be prepared to contribute $2,000 for each student position and that their school also be able to contribute $2,000 for each student package.

Research faculty interested in mentoring one or more SURI students for the Summer 2024 program can complete the SURI Faculty Program Submission Sheet by Monday, Nov. 27, 2023.

The application for students will open on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, and close on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024. Faculty are invited to encourage interested and eligible students to apply.
