Stephen Phillips elected as 2020 IEEE Vice President, Educational Activities

Stephen Phillips, professor and director of the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, was elected by the IEEE Assembly to serve as the 2020 IEEE Vice President, Educational Activities.

In this role, Phillips will serve as the chair of the IEEE Educational Activities Board and will serve as a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, the governing body of IEEE. The position is for one year, but re-election is permissible.

His experience includes leadership in university education, continuing education and program accreditation. Phillips’ IEEE volunteer service is focused on education, as he has previously served on the IEEE-EA Board for five years, most recently as treasurer.

With that background, Phillips says that he looks forward to leveraging his experience to lead the volunteers and staff in IEEE-EA in pursuit of its strategic goals and objective to serve the IEEE, its members and the profession.

“I will engage our diverse and inclusive team of volunteers and staff to promote IEEE-EA,” says Phillips. “IEEE-EA’s activities in education and accreditation are a proven catalyst to provide value to IEEE members and to improve access to high quality educational programs worldwide.”
