ASU Space Engineering Coffee commercial space speaker spotlight

Join ASU Space on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, for an industry talk featuring AstroForge. This ongoing series offers ASU experts an opportunity to learn about new capabilities with commercial space leaders.

Spotlight speaker: Matt Gialich, founder and CEO of AstroForge

Matt Gialich is a former engineer and the founder of AstroForge, a company that mines resources from asteroids. Starting out working on navigation in support of the U.S. Department of Defense, then quickly becoming an early engineer at Virgin Galactic, Gialich helped spin out the company Virgin Orbit, which created the first liquid-fueled rocket to be launched from an aircraft.

In 2021, he founded AstroForge to make asteroid mining a practical and near-term solution to preserving Earth’s most critical resources. The company successfully conducted a hot fire test of their Odin surveyor spacecraft — a key milestone toward the scheduled Q1 2024 launch of the 100 kg vehicle to fly by an undisclosed asteroid. Learn more about AstroForge
