Join the Learning, Information, Optimization, Networks and Statistics, or LIONS, group for a seminar with ASU Regents Professor Ying-Cheng Lai, from the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. Lai is a senior engineering faculty member with over 30 years of experience working in nonlinear and complex dynamical systems. He is joined by Zheng-Meng Zhai, a doctoral graduate working on machine learning with a focus on applications to nonlinear and complex dynamical systems.

Abstract

Reservoir computing has emerged as a machine learning architecture particularly suitable for modeling and predicting nonlinear and complex dynamical systems. The guest speakers will present the basics of reservoir computing and discuss two applications: predicting chaotic ecosystems with little data and anticipating tipping in dynamical systems.
