Innovate boldly with ASU data protection in mind

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is creating innovative opportunities to improve how we teach, research, support students and run operations. ASU’s AI Tools include approved environments for designing with AI and ASU data, including FERPA data. If you are using ASU data with AI, do so in an ASU-approved tool!
What to do before using AI with university data.
- Classify the data first. Use the ASU Data Classification Tool to determine what type of data you are working with and what protections apply. Some ASU AI Tools are approved for FERPA and non-regulated PII data.
- Use approved ASU AI tools. Start with the ASU AI Tools page to identify the right tool for your use and check that it’s approved for the type of data you intend to use.
- Review your responsibilities. Read the Digital Trust Guidelines before using any generative AI tool, so you understand expectations around privacy, confidentiality, copyright and intellectual property.
If the information belongs to ASU, a student, an employee, a research effort, or an ASU business process, do not paste it into an unapproved AI tool. Check the data classification, use approved ASU tools and when needed, pause and ask questions first.
Happy innovating, Sun Devils!
