Micro-badges at scale: How Global Outreach and Extended Education is advancing workforce-ready learning

Global Outreach and Extended Education, or GOEE, is playing a pivotal role in expanding access to workforce-aligned, flexible learning through its fast-growing portfolio of micro-badges — targeted digital credentials designed to recognize in-demand skills and competencies. Since launching our stackable microcredentials, we’ve offered 41 distinct micro-badges aligned with today’s most in-demand fields. Through those micro-badge programs, learners have earned 1,922 digital credentials that signal career-ready competencies across three high-demand fields:

Who’s earning them?

The Southwest Advanced Prototyping Hub, or SWAP Hub, and grants from the Certification 2 Degree program, or C2D, have expanded access to our programs, supporting the completion of 243 micro-badges to date. We’re proud to partner in making industry-aligned learning more accessible to a broader range of learners.
Why micro-badges?
ASU’s microcredentials offer flexible, skill-focused learning opportunities. A micro-badge is earned by completing a short course and assessment, typically involving about 10 hours of instruction and five to 10 hours of additional study. Courses are delivered in person or online via Zoom, with support from instructors throughout. Learners can earn a badge by completing four micro-badges within a topic area.
