Spotlight on Teaching and Learning

How can engineering faculty fill the skills gaps seen in engineering graduates entering the workplace?

Chao Wang, an associate teaching professor within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, is incorporating artificial intelligence and Internet of Things into her Introduction to Engineering curriculum through MATLAB exercises. Wang is addressing the skill gaps in these technologies by providing students with hands-on experiences to practice real-world problem-solving skills.

“I thought it would be very beneficial for students to learn some basic concepts of AI and IoT because these techniques will be increasingly used in all engineering disciplines,” Wang says.
