Do you enjoy sharing your ideas and listening to others’ ideas? Do you consider yourself to be intellectually creative and open-minded? Do you thrive on collaborating with people from disciplines and perspectives different from your own?
The Fulton Schools Vice Dean Research & Innovation Team (FSE VDRI) is hosting an Ideas Lab in July. The ideas lab will be led by Know Innovation, which works with a number of our university colleagues and actively collaborates with the National Science Foundation.
The Ideas Lab will begin with two in-person days on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, and Wednesday, July 27, 2022, followed by shorter virtual meetings later in the week and the following week. Because the ideal size of an ideas lab is 30 participants, we are asking interested faculty to complete a very brief application. The application should take about 15 minutes to complete. Participants will be selected based on criteria such as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); diversity of disciplines; diversity in stage of career; and responses to the application questions.
Goals of this Ideas Lab include:
- Developing new ideas for National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center proposals (LOIs due Friday, September 2, 2022; pre-proposals due Monday, October 3, 2022).
- Developing other new research ideas.
- Identifying projects for VDRI seed funding (up to $300k).
- Building relationships.
- Building teams.
In addition to participants, we are looking for six mentors to work within the ideas lab to support participants and review draft proposals. Mentors would typically be senior faculty who provide feedback to the teams throughout the ideas lab. Please share your interest in mentoring with Stacy Esposito at stacy.esposito@asu.edu.
