The New Economy Initiative is a forward-thinking investment by the State of Arizona that leverages the breadth and depth of ASU’s knowledge and expertise to improve Arizona’s competitiveness in the sectors that matter most for 21st century industrial growth, including advanced manufacturing and materials, energy, water security, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, communication technologies, automation and robotics, virtual and augmented reality, and more.
The New Economy Initiative supports the development of five Science and Technology Centers, or STCs, at ASU that will position Phoenix and Arizona for national and global leadership in the New Economy. The first two STCs — AMPED (Advanced Materials, Processes and Energy Devices) and Advanced Manufacturing — are launching with opportunities for faculty across ASU and industry partners to participate.
AMPED (Advanced Materials, Processes and Energy Devices)
The AMPED Science and Technology Center has technology thrust areas of photovoltaics, batteries and power-electronic devices.
Advanced Manufacturing
The Advanced Manufacturing Science and Technology Center has technology thrust areas of process science and engineering, robotics and automation, and data analytics, cyber and AI.
Join us on Zoom on Thursday, February 17, 2022, for a Proposers Day to connect with fellow faculty and industry partners. Following an introduction to the New Economy Initiative and the STCs, participants in Proposers Day will define present research priorities and capability needs for each thrust of the AMPED and Advanced Manufacturing STCs. This input will be used to generate subsequent funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) that will solicit joint research projects with ASU faculty PIs and industry partners. Faculty members are also encouraged to invite industry partners that align with the research technology thrusts.
