About the speaker
Leila Ladani is a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington, lead scientist at the University of Texas at Arlington Research Institute and director for Manufacturing Innovation and Catalysis Laboratory. Her long career in academia includes leadership positions in university level strategic vision committees and administrative hiring committees. She has been leading many projects sponsored by NASA, NSF, ONR, Airforce and the industry.
Her work has been recognized by numerous awards and recognitions including State of Connecticut Women of Innovation Award and ASME EPPD women engineer award. She has authored more than 160 scholarly publications and has been an invited speaker for over 30 times. Her outstanding career had led Ladani to work with many agencies including Department of State, NSF, National Academies and international organizations such as IWT and SIM Belgium, Canadian Ministry of Research and Innovation and Kuwait Foundation for Science.
She is the editor of Journal of Materials Science and Engineering A and associate editor for IEEE Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Transactions. She received her doctorate from the University of Maryland at College Park.
Abstract
ASU’s The Polytechnic School is a multidisciplinary school with great faculty and staff from a variety of specialties educating the next generation of engineers, scientists, managers, entrepreneurs and others. This unique cross-disciplinary environment offers countless opportunities for collaboration and growth. In this talk, Ladani will outline her vision and strategic planning approach for working with the faculty and staff of The Polytechnic School and the upper administration of Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and ASU in transforming and shaping the future of The Polytechnic School.
Ladani will outline the areas where she sees opportunities for growth in line with ASU vision and strategic enterprise plan. The approach in running academic affairs, operation and finance of The Polytechnic School in a friendly, inclusive and collaborative environment will be discussed. The role of this leadership position in cultivating and promoting this environment is outlined. Success metrics such as student recruitment and success, faculty satisfaction, growth, and retention and research collaboration and growth will be discussed.
