Students are invited to apply for the Summer 2018 Undergraduate Research Fellowship program at National Institute of Standards and Technology. The program is cosponsored by NIST and the National Science Foundation, federal agencies committed to attracting and training future generations of scientists and engineers.

SURF students work with NIST scientists and engineers, are exposed to cutting-edge and world-class research and explore graduate degrees in science and engineering.

SURF researchers receive a $5,500 stipend, housing and travel allotments. Two locations are available: Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Boulder, Colorado.

Applications must be submitted to the Student Engagement office, not directly to NIST-SURF.

Students can contact the FURI office at furi@asu.edu for assistance with the application process and the personal statement. Students are encouraged to seek advising from the Fulton Schools Career Center and the FURI office prior to submitting their application.

The SURF Program is anticipated to run from:

  • Monday, May 21, 2018, through Friday, August 3, 2018, for SURF Boulder
  • Tuesday, May 29, 2018, through Friday, August 10, 2018, for SURF Gaithersburg.

Apply by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018.
