The Fulton Undergraduate Research Initiative provides hands-on lab experience, independent and thesis-based research. Students selected to present their research at a conference can apply for Undergraduate Research Travel Grant Funding.

Students applying to FURI need to have a faculty mentor to work with them on a research project. Faculty mentors can receive a $500 mentor payment per student, up to five students per semester.

Many FURI participants have gone on to apply their unique experience to work in industry, as well as graduate studies in engineering, medicine, law and other disciplines. The FURI program has been made possible by the generous support of Mr. Ira A. Fulton and his family.

Students can request two semesters of FURI funding with a student stipend of $1,500 per semester, including up to $400 in research supplies per semester.

The next application deadline for students is noon on October 3 for Spring 2015 funding. Student proposals include:

  •     Research Proposal (two pages maximum, plus one page for research references).
  •     Timeline.
  •     Budget.
  •     Personal statement.
  •     Résumé.
  •     Unofficial transcript.
  •     FURI faculty mentor proposal support letter.

Learn more. The next proposal deadline will be early March 2015, where students can apply for Summer 2015, Fall 2015, and Spring 2016.
