Walk-Only Zones on the Tempe campus protect pedestrian safety and ease vehicle congestion. Walk-Only Zones affect everybody that comes to the Tempe campus including students, faculty, staff and visitors. The first Walk-Only Zones around Hayden Library and the Memorial Union were launched in fall 2013.

This semester Palm Walk and Tyler Mall will become Walk-Only Zones. Wheeled vehicles will be restricted on Palm Walk from Tyler Mall to Lemon Mall, and on Tyler Mall from Old Main to the Goldwater Center, beginning August 21, 2014. View the Walk-Only Zone maps

Walk-Only Zones are enforced Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. During enforcement times, no one may ride, drive or park wheeled vehicles in Walk-Only Zones.

Wheeled vehicles include:

  • Bicycles (traditional and motorized)
  • Delivery/Maintenance & Landscaping cars, trucks and carts
  • Electric vehicles and golf carts
  • Inline and roller skates
  • Scooters
  • Segways
  • Skateboards
  • All motorized and wheeled vehicles

* The Walk-Only Zones are not intended to limit or redirect use of mobility devices by individuals with disabilities.
