CableLabs is the research consortium for the global cable television and broadband industry. CableLabs currently collaborates with several universities and academic research groups on selected research topics of interest.

The CableLabs University Research program for 2014 expands this collaboration with more universities by allocating an increased number of small gifts and grants. This Request for Proposal (RFP) invites universities and academic groups to submit research funding applications primarily focusing on the six research themes:

  • Future of Work.
  • Big Software Platforms.
  • Measurement Revolution.
  • Richer User Experiences.
  • Smart Spaces.
  • Identity Management and Security.

The focus of the university outreach program is on technological innovations and solutions that will achieve significance in the market place in five to ten years. Several example problems are provided in this RFP to provide university researchers guidance on the types of problems that are of interest to CableLabs. It should be noted that some of the research problems posed in this RFP cut across a number of themes (including some that are not listed above). Proposals addressing any of our research areas of interest are welcomed.

CableLabs accepts both gift and grant proposals. Proposals must be submitted by email at uresearch@cablelabs.com no later than 5 p.m. MT on Monday, May 26, 2014. CableLabs will review proposals and provide a response to each respondent by Monday, June 30, 2014.

Questions regarding this RFP should be submitted in writing via email to uresearch@cablelabs.com. For more information about CableLabs, visit www.cablelabs.com.
