Sankar receives NSF CAREER award to conduct privacy research
Arizona State University engineering faculty member Lalitha Sankar has received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Award, or CAREER Award. The award provides $455,000 for Sankar’s research project, Privacy-Guaranteed Distributed Interactions in Critical Infrastructure Networks. The project will develop information-sharing protocols between distributed, and often competitive, entities in critical infrastructure networks such as the electric grid. Read on Full Circle
‘Big data’ advances could help solve health, energy challenges
Two teams of Arizona State University computer science researchers are working to develop the next generations of data-driven predictive systems to improve our ability to respond to epidemics and more effectively manage buildings and their energy systems. Both teams are led by K. Selçuk Candan, a professor in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, one of the ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. Aditi Chattopadhyay Named Arizona State Regents’ Professor (India West)
To add to a long legacy of engineering achievements, Chattopadhyay has been awarded the Regents’ Professor title — the highest honor for faculty at Arizona’s state universities — for her strides in cutting-edge aerospace research and contributions to students. She is the ninth ASU engineering faculty member to be selected as a Regents’ Professor, and the fifth in the past five years. Read on Full Circle
Making a place for women in engineering (State Press)
Veronica Santos (SEMTE), Jennifer Blain Christen (ECEE), Aditi Chattopadhyay (SEMTE), and civil engineering students Ashley Welton and MacKenzie Ann Hagan are mentioned in this article about the increasing number of women in STEM disciplines. In a 2009 report by the National Science and Math Initiative, it was revealed that men 25 and older held 87 percent of bachelor’s degrees in engineering fields, but these women engineers are part of a growing community of women engineers working to change this statistic.
