Mining for Extremism (ASU Research Matters)
ASU computer scientist Hasan Davulcu leads a web data-mining team that collects online information for a Department of Defense initiative that works to understand the social, cultural and political forces that shape various parts of the world. Davulcu, an associate professor in the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, collaborates on research led by ASU’s Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict to study the motivations driving extremist groups and the impact of their activities on society.
