The Valley of the Sun YMCA and Arizona State University are teaming up to host Arizona’s most historic running event, The Y Race Phoenix.

The scenic, out-and-back, rolling course starts and finishes at the 16,000-acre South Mountain Park, the largest municipal park in the country. With a half marathon, 5K race and a free 1M fun run, there is something for everyone.

Race day registration and packet pick-up starts at 6 a.m. Avoid the lines: register online and pick up your race packet early.

Fitness Fest

In conjunction with the race, ASU and the Valley of the Sun YMCA are hosting a daylong Fitness Fest. Experts, trainers, instructors and researchers from the YMCA and ASU’s College of Health Solutions and College of Nursing and Health Innovation will be on hand for health screenings, wellness demonstrations and talks about health, fitness and nutrition.

Parking for Fitness Fest is available behind the Lincoln Family YMCA (350 N. First Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85003). Entrance to the parking lot is located off Second Avenue.

Participants registered for the race on Oct. 20 may pick up their race packet at Fitness Fest. Registration for the race also will be available on site.

  • President Crow will be leading a team from the President’s Office.
  • OKED has been organizing training runs for its team.
  • The Carey School has so many runners, the school is renting a bus!
  • The deans of Health Solutions, Cronkite and New College are leading their school teams.
  • UTO has one of the biggest teams so far.
