Please share the following information with students regarding the new Graduate Women’s Association at ASU. Direct questions about the organization to Alaya Swann at Alaya.Swann@asu.edu or to asu.gwa@gmail.com.
The Graduate Women’s Association at ASU would like to ask faculty members to spread the word about us and encourage graduate students to participate.
The GWA supports graduate students during all phases of their graduate experience and in navigating the job market and their later careers. We provide opportunities to practice and develop academic and professional discourse in formal and informal settings such as talks, panels, and workshops. By offering a variety of resources and perspectives we address issues that are particularly relevant for women but are often faced by all graduate students. While the organization is called a women’s association, we believe the success of these activities is dependent upon the involvement of men, women and other sexes. We foster an ASU community that supports equal academic and professional success for all sexes and genders.
GWA has registered with the Graduate College as a student organization, and we are currently planning our events for next fall, which will include a social, a talk on professional presentation strategies, and a panel on life/school balance. All graduate students can participate in our planning process for these and later events, and we also invite faculty and staff to join our listserv or like us on Facebook to receive information and updates.
GWA will be at the upcoming Women in Leadership event on March 30, 2013, in the MU Ventana Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by and say hello!
