Engineering Projects in Community Service teams have advanced in two prestigious national competitions.

FlashFood, a food recovery network powered by social media, has been selected as a finalist in the U.S. Microsoft Imagine Cup. The team will be competing in the finals in Seattle April 20-23. Winners will advance to the Worldwide Finals to be held in Sydney, Australia, in July.

The theme of 2012 Imagine Cup is “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems.” Held annually, the Microsoft Imagine Cup is one of the premier student technology competitions. (http://imaginecup.us)

Eight EPICS teams have been selected as semifinalists in the Dell Social Innovation Challenge, which identifies and supports promising young social innovators who dedicate themselves to solving the world’s most pressing problems with their transformative ideas.

EPICS teams that will compete in the semifinal round of the challenge in Austin, Texas, in June include: 33 Buckets, SafeSIPP, Team Ride & Bike, FlashFood, Well~Water, Project C.U.R.E. M^3 and Project C.U.R.E. Sorting Database.

The 2012 challenge will present 27 awards, more than $140,000 in cash prizes and more than $500,000 worth of in-kind prizes. (http://dellchallenge.org)
