The Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development has launched a demonstration phase of the Research Catalog, a new networking tool designed to help researchers easily search university expertise and identify collaborators.
OKED is requesting feedback on Phase I in order to help shape development of Phase II and make the tool responsive to users’ needs.
Information in the online directory is compiled by Elsevier’s SciVal Experts, a directory of research expertise created from publications in over 19,000 journals.
Users can search by departments and centers, scientific discipline, researchers’ names, publication text and broad concepts such as renewable energy or personalized medicine.
The first phase of the rollout is limited, providing information on 1,800 ASU researchers, 200 from the University of Arizona and 100 from Northern Arizona University.
During spring 2012, the number of faculty and researchers will be expanded, along with additional information such as sponsored projects and patent filings. Developers plan to incorporate more proposals as well, expanding from approximately 1,600 today to include five full years of text and expenditure data.
