Arizona State University professors transcend the traditional boundaries of higher education. They carve bold new paths of discovery, mentoring students and inspiring them to become active participants in their own learning. They expose their students to dynamic new ways of thinking with the ultimate goal of improving life.
The ASU Parents Association endowed professorship recognizes the commitment and success of tenured faculty who best exemplify a passion for teaching and mentoring students and who excel in both undergraduate teaching and in their area of research or creative activity. The Professor of the Year receives a cash award of $10,000 and the lifelong designation of Parents Association Professor. In addition, the recipient becomes a fellow in the ASU Distinguished Teaching Academy. The Parents Association provides an additional $5,000 per year for two academic years for that selected professor to fund an undergraduate student assistant.
The 2012 Professor of the Year, along with the President’s Professors and Faculty Achievement recipients will be announced at the new Faculty Excellence Awards celebration, sponsored by the ASU Parents Association. Watch for details about this newly-expanded faculty recognition event.
Any student, faculty or staff member may submit a single nomination. The submission deadline is Friday, Feb. 17. Only tenured faculty are eligible for this award. The Professor of the Year nomination form, eligibility and selection criteria can be found at www.asu.edu/pty.
