Library News: Have Your Students Take the Knovel Challenge!
Every Fall semester, Knovel has a University Challenge competition (http://www.knoveluniversitychallenge.com/) in which students can win prizes. This year’s contest is happening now (deadline is December 1st). Answer three questions correctly and the student will be entered into a drawing for prizes such as an iPad2 and cash. If 100 or more ASU students successfully answer three questions, they will be eligible for a separate drawing for an iPod Nano. This is a great way for the students to learn about Knovel and what it can do for them. Please consider promoting this contest to your students.

Library News about McGraw-Hill Titles: Removal from the Knovel and E-brary Databases
McGraw-Hill Publishing has announced they are withdrawing their titles from both the Knovel (http://library.lib.asu.edu/record=e1000276) and the E-brary (http://library.lib.asu.edu/record=e1000169) databases. Consequently, on November 1, when the ASU Libraries’ license renewal with Knovel takes effect, users will no longer be able to view the full text of over 150 McGraw-Hill titles; this includes heavily used reference works such as “Perry’s Chemical Engineers’ Handbook” and “Mark’s Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers.” The removal from E-brary will take effect on January 1, 2012.
The E-brary content will be available throughout the Fall semester and Knovel has already added new titles from other publishers that contain the same content as the McGraw-Hill titles so students should be able to complete assignments from Fall 2011 courses. The ASU Libraries will try to replace some of the heavily-used McGraw-Hill titles online, if possible, but the current funding situation does not permit subscribing to “Access Engineering” the McGraw-Hill, in-house, ebook platform.
