Jeremy Helm is the new director, academic administration and student success. He takes on many of the responsibilities of Ann Zell, who is retiring.
Helm has the distinction of having worked on all four ASU campuses. He began his career at ASU’s West campus in recruiting and retention for the College of Arts and Sciences as well as advising coordinator for the Dean’s Office.
At the Polytechnic campus, Helm served in multiple positions, including advisor, assistant to the dean, associate director of academic services and ultimately director of academic services. From there, he moved to the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at the downtown campus.
In between, Helm spent a year teaching English in Japan. He had worked with the Japanese Friendship Garden and Phoenix Sister Cities Commission, and found the opportunity intriguing. He remains active with both organizations.
With this varied background, and a perspective from each of the campuses, Helm says he is excited to join many colleagues at Fulton Engineering that he has met along the way.
“Engineering has attracted many people that I have come to know and respect during my time at ASU. It is an impressive group and I am pleased to be a part of it,” he says.
He also says that Ann leaves big shoes to fill noting, “There are many people at ASU—including me—who have benefitted from Ann’s insight and expertise.”
A team builder, Helm hopes to “meet with colleagues, learn and get feedback. I’d like to absorb information from as many people as possible.”
“Engineering is a flagship for ASU. I look forward to helping to expand the innovative programs we offer,” says Helm.
Helm is an ASU alumnus, with a B.S. in recreation and tourism management. He also holds an M.Ed. in education leadership from Northern Arizona University.
