The Engineering Gold team reportedly crushed their competition in the opening rounds of the 2011 Academic Bowl. With a 3-0 record, the team took big wins over the School of Sustainability 270-80, and twice versus Herberger Institute of Design 240-45 and 225-100.

The Engineering Gold team includes team captain Eric Lehnhardt (biomedical engineering), Joe Yu (electrical engineering), Ethan Holshouser (computer science) and John Ernzen (biomedical engineering) as well as alternate Grayson Stanton (civil engineering). Richard Filley, director of EPICS, is the team’s coach along with assistant coach Megan Duskey.

The Engineering Maroon team competed in Tuesday’s competition. Despite two wins over University College and the Cronkite School of Journalism, the team lost to reigning champions, CLAS Gold. Captain Alex Davis, Brendan Fries, Shawn Haupt and Zach Paul gave their all for a close final match: Engineering Maroon 200, CLAS Gold 235.

Engineering Gold will face the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Maroon team in the semi-finals, scheduled for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, in the Eight, Arizona PBS studios on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus.
