Michael Caplan, an associate professor in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering, uses his expertise in biomaterials to help develop better treatments for heart disease. He’s drawn support from major foundations for his studies of how the cells that line blood vessels react when they come into contact with materials from which medical devices are made. He recently took time to step outside the lab and aid the cause by participating in a public service announcement for the American Heart Association.
