Advancing Women in Construction (AWIC), an up-and-coming student organization dedicated to establishing healthy relationships between women, men and the construction industry, recently hosted an outreach event for 56 Girl Scouts from 20 local troops. On Saturday, January 19, AWIC members worked with the fourth- and fifth-grade girls to design, build and decorate cookie wagons in a Wagon Building Workshop. Bright colors, glitter and polka dots were splashed across every inch of the wagons, from the wheels to the handles. It was a fun activity to encourage teamwork among the girls and to help them experience the accomplishment of building something together. Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering Dean Paul Johnson attended to support our students and their outreach efforts. The event took place on the loading docks of the Urban Systems Engineering building.
